    Description

This is an antique KNIGHTS TEMPLAR Masonic Sword Belt that belonged to William F. Stevenson (MARKED INSIDE). It is manufactured by M.C. Lilley And Co. of Columbus, Ohio and measures 36" long x 1 5/8" wide. I have not done anything to the belt and it is in attic condition. Circa 1900-1910.
Note the hanger has three straps, two of which have the lower end clips, the middle one does not. Essentially the sword belt provides two methods of hanging the sword:
First, for vertical suspension; straps attached to the two upper rings of  the scabbard. In this method, the two equal length straps on the belt are used, and as stated the sword is in a vertical position.
The second manner in which the sword can be suspended, uses one short strap and the longer strap.  In this manner the they are clipped to one upper ring and one lower ring of the scabbard. The result being the sword is suspended on  an angle. the middle strap has a hook at the top, so the sword could be rolled up on the strap a couple times, then hooked unto that belt hook at the top of the middle strap (that has no clip on it).
So what does all this mean, in regards to THIS belt?
    It is apparent, the owner
    preferred
to suspend the sword on an angle, thus the clips remain on one short strap and the long strap.  The belt hook needed to be kept in place, so
    that's
why I believe that middle strap is still there.
