FROM NEW YORK TIMES - Jun 9, 1996
    For more than five decades,
    Mr. Spoons
, as he is widely known  in the Manhattan, has reigned as the country's premier spoon player. Part hillbilly busker, part folk philosopher, he embodies an era when minstrel men and sideshow impresarios entertained small-town America. "Joe is one of the last of the urban jesters, those isolated few who have made a stage out of everyday life," said
    Cal Kowal
, a photography professor who in 1975 published "Book Full of Spoons," a pictorial biography of Mr. Jones.
